Wildwood Crest Branch Library
Inspired by the region’s iconic, colorful, and geometric modern and Doo-Wop style architecture, the relocated Wildwood Crest Branch Library features new and renovated spaces. Angled rooflines are echoed in terrazzo floors and railing details. Pastel colors and a beach theme run throughout the playful interiors, where the children’s area includes a carpet pool and hot tub and umbrella chairs. Sustainable design ensures the library’s long-term efficiency and security. Impact-resistant glass offers protection for the hurricane-prone locale, while providing transparency into the bright interiors. The addition features a solar chimney: a dual-wall system with a glass exterior and terra cotta interior wall that draws warm air up; in winter, this air will be re-circulated to heat the building, while in summer, it is exhausted to keep the building cooler. The renovated part of the building is fronted by reclaimed wood trellises and capped with a green roof. The library design includes adult, teen, and children’s areas, a café, lounge, distance learning and meeting space, and a roof deck.
